  • What Is Hot Stamping Foil?

The three major elements of hot stamping are temperature, pressure, and time. Hot stamping foil is the foil with metallic luster. Using high pressure and temperature to stamp the pattern on silicone rubber die with metalized layer and color layer onto the printed matter. It is functional foil with multi-layer coatings. Each coating layer has an unique function and together they achieve hot transferring effect. The structure and preservation methods of hot stamping foil are as shown below.

  • Types of Hot Stamping Machine

Hot stamping is a process to stamp the embossing patterns with metallic shines of the foil onto substrates by high heat and pressure. There are up and down stamping, vertical stamping, and digital stamping to choose from per products' needs. Detailed information of these three methods are shown as below.

  • Differences of Materials of Dies

There are silicone rubber dies and metal dies, the latter could be further divided into copper die and zinc die. The differences between silicone rubber dies and metal dies and the two major metal dies are described as below.

  • How Thickness of Hot Stamping Foil Affects Its Function

Hot stamping foil is multi-layered. The thickness of film layer, adhesive layer, and top layer varies per different industrial needs. The following provides how the structure has impacts on hot stamping process.

  • Impacts of Stamping Temperature to the Hot Stamping Foil

Working temperature varies among different conditions such as the type of foil, colors, and stamping machines. Adhesive layer is difficult to melt if temperature is too low, poor adhesion will cause incomplete stamping effects and missing pieces on the subject. Overheated working environment causes color fading when the above happens, please try to adjust temperature, pressure, or use a different foil when encountering the above issues.

  • The Abnormal Situation During Foil Stamping

There are many types of defects. Below provide information regards two major defects that take place very often. One is "entrapped-air" which the voids are generated and trapped on the surface of the foil. Secondly, when perform hot stamping process on exquisite items, it tends to generate foil flake.
