Ginkgo Film Coating Technology Corp. was founded in 1988, providing with various plastic film processing products by evaporation. The main products include hot stamping foils, leather transfer films holographic foils, and lamination films. Evaporation industry used PVC, OPP and other plastics in the early stage and then the following was plastic films and PET polyester film, etc. were used as substrate. How to keep environmental protection and economic development coexisting in harmony is an enormous challenge for evaporation industry. At present, the glitter film is readily available in daily life and is made into sequins and glitter powder after cutting-up. It is widely used in printing, clothing, stationery, creations and other appearance decoration with its attainable feature. Especially in the Christmas season, when the glitter power (shimmering powder) is greatly used, a lot of micro plastic pollution will be caused.
In May 2017, according to a survey by nonprofit organization Orb Media, 159 samples of tap water from 12 countries around the world were collected for analysis. The finding was that 83% of them contained micro plastics. The highest pollution rate reaching 94% was in the United States. Even bottled water cannot be spared. The survey also showed that 1/3of British fishery landings contained micro plastics, with an average of about 50 micro plastics in 6 oysters. In December 2019, the media reported that the environmental damage was caused by glitter powder in the headline “Christmas glitter pollutes the ocean, taking thousands of years before it can be decomposed.” With the serious invasion of micro plastic in our lives, the volume of scholars calling for the prohibition of shimmering poser has also increased. British supermarket chains and department stores have also taken the lead in announcing the prohibition of plastic glitter products in stores to reduce the environmental damage caused by micro plastics.
To avoid the environmental damage of plastic glitter, through the long-term cooperation with Industrial Technology Research Institute, Ginkgo overturns the producing process adopts the biodegradable material (film and paper), and develops the eco-friendly glitter films (powder and sequins). Currently, Ginkgo has acquired the patent license, number M586675 issued by Intellectual Property office. The structure of flitter film, developed by Ginkgo Film Coating Technology Corporation, can not only bring the visual enjoyment but also prevent causing the micro plastic. Biodegradable glitter is both harmless to the environment and three material proved by practical testing.
The main characteristics of the eco-friendly glitter are as below:
